As a search engine marketer, one of the most important aspects of my job is getting clients exposure on the web. There are literally hundreds of ways to accomplish this, as anyone who has done SEM research will tell you. Facing such an abundance of information can be daunting, and it can also make formulating a plan of attack much more challenging. So how exactly should one begin their SEM campaign? My research has shown me that one of the quickest, and by far the most beneficial, ways to start a campaign is by building a sitemap. During their never-ending pursuit to index the world, Google began experimenting with sitemaps in June of 2005. Lately I have really been digging the WebProNews Video Blogand their interviews with some of the top minds in search marketing. It is always nice to put a face and personality to industry mavens and decision makers from leading companies. According to a recent study by Intel "More than one-third of businesses are already using some form of the interactive or user-generated technologies, such as blogging, that get grouped under the Web 2.0 heading." Intel recently announced that it has put together a collaboration software package for small to medium sized businesses that provides applications for blogs, RSS feeds, wikis and social networking. I think a lot of companies will be blown away by the potential of web 2.0 technologies and how far superior they are to their current collaboration system – email. These new technologies allow companies to keep tabs on the latest industry news (RSS feeds), share information with customers (blogs + podcasting), and provide employee generated publishing platforms (wikis). More companies are also using social networking to recruit potential employees maintain business relations. Having worked for a large corporation, I have definitely been frustrated by poor communication (both internal…

Equals more of your products in the consumers face. Google Base is great service that allows you to submit the products and services that you offer directly to Google. By uploading specific product information to Base, you are more likely to have your products show up in the search results on Google when a user searches on a relevant query. Check out the search results for "striped beach chair": Best Promotions is coming up at the top of the natural search results because the beach chair is an active item in Google Base. This is cool because Best Promotions is a fairly new website and would not necessarily have visibility on the first page in Google for this search term yet. Uploading to Base will also give your products and services visibility in Google related sites like Froogle and Google Local. It is important to make sure your items have pictures…
