Show Notes:

Podcast number 13 from Gnomedex 2007. This show is with Chris Heuer of socialmediaclub.com and chrisheuer.com

We talk about:

Tons of new conversations around open source right now
Second anniversary of Bar Camp is soon
Chris attended a facilitation training
Which is what put him on to BrainJams The best thing that you do to learn is to read a magazine outside your industry
BrainJams was a study in interdisciplinary
Social Media Club was derived from that earlier work
It stemmed from a need for event context
To make a nerd correlation it is sort of like a relational database - context with key
What you've done is created a social platform
Seeing the value in temporary communities
Sure, just like Gnomedex
Making sure that there is value in presentations
Setting up the learning environment
Walking out on sessions at a conference in favor of the hallway conversation
Taking time to make connections that you can't make in a session
Conversational Marketing, but it worries me
The wrong people might co-opt it
Trying to figure out the semantics
Talking about it as Market Conversations, the difference is intention
Intention in what sense?
Well, we talked about this a bit around the Calcanis session
Intention is about letting the audience know what is coming
Mixing messages doesn't help intent
Intention was to announce a new product
Not the edification of the audience
Firguring out how to create value together
When working in the enterprise on the social media scale what has worked for you?
The rejection by them comes from us rejecting them first
Not trying to invalidate them or the structure they work in
That is why the tag line for Social Media Club is "If you get it. Share it"
Education has to be at the forefront of the conversation
Getting your message out versus manipulation
Looking for the champion within an organization
Presenting a cohesive case study
Knowing whose done it well and who hasn't
Learning how to speak the language
Can they trust you?
Do they understand that you are going to help them?

I'll be there with the gear and a calloused hump from carrying it all over the country.

It was good speaking with you again. It will be interesting to have a record of how the conversations change over time.

Good thinking - glad you brought that up. No, I agree, you would never frame something like that.
