If you work for a company that has dozens or even hundreds of locations, it’s been a nightmare to figure out how to best use Facebook places to your advantage. Sure you want to try some check-in deals, but you have no idea how to claim/admin/manage all of the individual locations.

I have had many a conversation on Foursquare etiquette. I think Foursquare in a Facebook or Twitter stream can be a real nuisance, much like Facebook linked to Twitter, etc.. The three mediums are often used for different types of information, and I’m not interested in seeing a lot of overlap.
When Facebook Places launched, I was very cautious about using it. I feared backlash for a constant stream of useless check-ins. With Foursquare, there is incentive for me to check in at each new location, because I can get tips and deals. That kind of a check in is why Foursquare exists. Facebook exists for a wide variety of socialization, from content sharing to rants to extended comment strings. If you add into the mix that I am, say, at 7-11, lunch, dinner, or the gym, I’m just flooding my newsfeed with content that doesn’t produce much of a conversation,…

The time has come for the oft-discussed Facebook Places to finally launch. One of the biggest topics of discussion around Facebook Places is how this will affect user privacy – especially due to some of the huge privacy issues in the past that Facebook has had to deal with. The Facebook Places functionality just became available to many of us here at Room 214 and we have already noticed some interesting privacy issues that you should definitely take note of.
When I checked in to Room 214, I was not listed in the “Person/People Here Now” area at the top of our new Room 214 Places listing. However, a few of my colleagues did show up here:
